A SNUB by a junior minister to the campaign for Farnham to be 'divorced' from Waverley has provoked fury in a group poised to petition the Queen for change.

The Non-partisan Petition Group (NPG), which wants restoration of Farnham as an independent local government authority, has been knocked back by the minister and told: "You might be better channelling your considerable efforts and obvious enthusiasm for change into supporting the parish of Farnham."

Brandon Lewis, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government, was responding to a request for a meeting with local government secretary Eric Pickles.
