FOR health reasons as well as love of countryside, walking has become a popular pastime – now Rowledge has produced its own set of annotated walks for those seeking fresh air along the parish footpaths.

Twelve walks, of no more than moderate difficulty and between four and 10 kilometres in length, explore most of the footpaths in the parish, and some beyond.

Each is printed on A5 water-proof card, the reverse carrying history notes about the walk. The lot is enclosed within an attractive, stiff folder.

Phil Thomas, leader of the Rowledge Residents’ Village Clean-Up Group, had the idea after attending a talk on Rowledge village given by local historian, Roy Waight.

“Liz and I walked the routes and checked them out. Roy provided the history notes,” said Phil. Printing was funded by the Residents’ Association and Farnham Town Council.

The walks, costing £12, can be obtained from Pullingers and Waterstones, as well as at the Coffee-Spot, held each Friday morning between 9am and 12pm in Rowledge Village Hall.

Any surplus will go towards the upkeep of parish paths and a number of improvements have been made already with more planned. As the routes are over-printed on Ordnance Survey maps, each sheet is self-contained and easily carried in wet or dry weather.
