AS well as celebrating Victory in Europe (VE) Day and Victory over Japan (VJ) Day, Farnham’s Royal British Legion (RBL) will also be commemorating 100 years since the end of the First World War at this year’s VE/VJ Day fete in Gostrey Meadow.
The event is set to take place on Saturday, August 18, between noon and 5pm, and will be opened by Second World War veteran, Percy Bartlett (Royal Armoured Corps), and vice-president of Farnham’s RBL.
The Albion will be providing a barbecue with burgers and sausages, served by staff and volunteers, as well as the return of the successful Vintage Tea Room, serving traditional cream teas and cakes. There will also be milkshakes, ice cold slush, a beer tent for the adults and a vintage ice cream van.
There will be entertainment for the whole family, including Sid the Spiv, Windsor Amusements and fairground rides, craft stalls, face painting, retro and vintage stalls, and military vehicles and equipment.
Music will be provided by the Glenn Miller Tribute Band, along with Ladies in Red, and the Camberley and Frimley Corps of Drums.
Head to the Conservative Club, Downing Street, from 7pm where there will be a Traditional Tea Dance.
Admission is free, however donations are welcome and will go to the Royal British Legion. So, pick up your chairs and picnic blankets, get dressed up in vintage clothes, hats and hairstyles, or just go along as you are.
Any businesses willing to donate prizes for the raffle should contact Ian Hunter, Farnham RBL branch secretary, via email at [email protected].
