THE author of an anonymous leaflet about Grayshott's proposed skate park has been slammed by the village's district councillor. The leaflet entitled "Save Grayshott Recreation Ground" has been delivered a number of homes with the Waggoner's development and in the area of Beech Lane the main targets. It outlines the "peaceful rural setting" of the recreation ground, the proposed home of the long-awaited facility and warns that should the proposal get the go ahead, residents should brace themselves for "noise, litter, loitering, graffiti and general nuisance". "I'm very upset to see this anonymous leaflet circulating around parts of Grayshott," Mr Cowper said. "The note is inaccurate, extremely alarmist and exaggerates the fear factor in a most irresponsible manner. When you consider than the majority of the Waggoner's development is inhabited by older folk who already possess an unduly high fear of crime, to scare them in this manner is unforgivable. "The person who wrote and distributed this disgraceful document clearly understands nothing of this village. I challenge them to admit their identity in public and defend their behaviour. This unacceptable conduct contributes to the destruction of our wonderful sense of an inclusive community." In his monthly newsletter Mr Cowper also criticised the leaflet and said that the recreation ground "is a public space made available for the use by the public for any legal pursuit". "Public spaces such as these are intended for energetic, healthy recreation. It is expected that people, young and old, will exercise and let off steam," it said. "Our recreation ground is the only place in the village where this freedom to have energetic, boisterous and even noisy fun is possible. It is a great chance to exploit this valuable asset." Mr Cowper also pledged to do all he can to ensure the skate park is in place for the summer. On Wednesday (April 27) members of Grayshott Parish Council were due to listen to the views of residents before making a decision at a later date.
