THE Alton Society has challenged local people to help fight "the unprecedented threat of massive new housing development" in the town.
The rallying call follows the revelation last week that major property developer, Alfred McAlpine, has registered an "option to purchase" 50 acres of land at Whillhall Farm, Alton.
