ALTON will step closer to starting SpeedWatch with a meeting for people to find out about volunteering.

The initiative allows people to become police support volunteers and monitor the speed of vehicles and help to educate motorists in their area.

The initiative is being rolled out by Hampshire Constabulary across the county, to increase awareness of the dangers.

Alton is to join a shared scheme that will include the villages of Binsted, Beech and Four Marks. Each of the four councils is to contribute £500 toward the equipment, with the police funding the difference.
