BBC ONE’s Antiques Road Trip has again dropped in for a rummage at local treasure trove, the Antique’s Warehouse in Runfold, kick-starting a new series of the hit TV show.

The St George’s Road centre has become something of a regular on Antiques Road Trip in recent years – with its latest appearance broadcast at 4.30pm on Tuesday this week (available to re-watch via BBC iPlayer).

The episode was filmed on a “very hot” day in the summer, said owner Hillary Burroughs, who welcomed antiques expert James Braxton, “a great character” added Hillary, in his stately 1969 Rover P5.

Hillary told the Herald she has “lost count” of the number of times the programme has paid her centre a visit over the years – but added this episode was more high-tech than the rest, employing the use of drones for some aerial camera shots.

Asked why her centre is so popular with film crews, she continued: “It’s a very photogenic site, we have a huge selection of antiques and always make them very welcome.

“Another expert, Philip Serrell, said on a previous visit that we are in his top three centres in the country!”

Hillary particularly talked up her centre’s “beautiful antique furniture”, which she said is often cheaper than the high street equivalent, and more eco-friendly. “The carbon footprint of a new chest of drawers is 16 times that of an antique chest,” she said.

The Antique’s Warehouse is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and has ambitious plans for the future, including a new cafe.

However, Hillary added the 16th century building is also in “desperate need” of a new roof.

The Antiques Warehouse is open 10.30am to 5pm, seven days a week.
