THE Antiques Warehouse in St George’s Road is to star on the BBC’s Celebrity Antiques Road Trip after driving a hard bargain when the show came to town last month.

TV personality Sarah Green and dealer Catherine Southon arrived at the treasure trove between Badshot Lea and Runfold in a vintage Porsche on Sunday, July 17, and spent the entire afternoon exploring its array of antiques, fine and country furniture, collectables and garden artefacts.

They eventually set their sights on an unusual silver heart-shaped pocket watch, a set of French silver-handled art deco hors d’oeuvres servers and two ornate chimney pots which after some haggling with owner Hilary Burroughs they bought for a combined £290.

The Antiques Warehouse is celebrating its 21st anniversary this year and is no stranger to TV appearances, starring in another BBC antiques programme Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is as recently as February.

Speaking after the latest bout of filming, owner Hilary told The Herald: “I thought I stood my ground quite well. So many TV programmes in the past have descended into farce and nobody likes to see that because it paints the trade in a bad light.

“But Sarah and Catherine were genuinely interested in talking about the items on display and it was nice to have them visit.”

The episode of BBC’s Celebrity Antiques Road Trip featuring The Antiques Warehouse will be shown this October.
