WHO cares about Wimbledon? Without doubt the UK tournament of the year is the Home-Start tennis competition.
Held annually like the famous one in SW19, competition courts around the county host competitive matches, followed by an al fresco lunch.
Some nine courts (of eight players) took part this year and there were prizes for everyone.
Lunch was hosted in the delightful garden at Lane End Farm at Longwood, near Cheriton, courtesy of Sue and David Elton, where prosecco greeted the contestants on arrival and coronation chicken was served – appropriate in such a regal year.
More than £3,400 was raised and players generously supported the raffle which boasted Grange Park opera tickets and hair styling from Michaeljohn of Mayfair. There was also an opportunity to go shopping with stalls laid on by Six Love (tennis wear), cashmere and silk from Birds of Paradise, and Boutique Italian women’s wear and accessories from Emma Darlington.
