FOLLOWING a successful collection day in October, a group of Farnham residents have announced a second date for people to donate items desperately needed by Syrian refugees.
On Thursday, February 11, the volunteers will be collecting at St Thomas-on-the Bourne Church from 2pm until 6pm.
Following advice from the British Red Cross, they will only be collecting men’s, women’s and children’s coats in good condition; sturdy shoes for men and women; new mens’ socks; disposable nappies and sleeping bags, in containing bag.
The volunteers will then sort and deliver these goods directly to the British Red Cross in Portsmouth which will distribute the items to Syrian refugees both in this country, and overseas.
The Farnham group has also set up a text donation line, text “FHAM50 £5” to 70070 to donate £5.
Texts cost £5 plus standard message charge and all proceeds will be donated to the British Red Cross Syria Appeal.
Organiser Fiona Henderson, said: “We set up the group as we felt the need of Syrian refugees was so overwhelming and being poorly addressed officially. We were amazed by Farnham’s response to our first collection day in October.and hope Farnham will again support this important cause.”
