HUNDREDS of people made their way to the Blackmoor Estate for the 49th Blackmoor Apple Tasting event at the weekend.

Visitors were able to taste a wide selection of old and new apple and pear varieties, with Chiver’s Delight and Topaz proving the most popular apples on Sunday (October 13).

Beyond the apples, the Alton Morris Dancers remained a highlight of the day, as did tours of St Matthew’s Church bell tower.

Emily Palmer, event organiser said: “Visitors enjoyed locally produced beer and cider and were able to make a start on their Christmas shopping in the Craft Fair, where we were delighted to host many local artists including Selborne Pottery and Oakhanger Alpacas.

“For many local charities this day is one of the biggest fundraising days of their calendar and, thanks to the generous support of the public, lots of money was raised for good causes including Blackmoor & Whitehill Scouts, Woolmer Forest Lions and St Matthew’s Parents Teachers Friends Association.”

County and district councillor Adam Carew, who has been attending Blackmoor Apple Tasting since he was a child, said: “Congratulations once again to William Woolmer and Blackmoor Estate for an excellent apple tasting.

“For me and my family this annual event always heralds the onset of autumn.

“I don’t think I have missed this celebration since the age of three and I remember having to reach up for slices of apple as I was too small to see over the top of table!”
