A 15-year-old floorball hockey player from Farnham has been selected to join the Great Britain (GB) Under-19 national team following a training and selection camp in Gloucestershire making him one of the youngest players ever to be selected.
Archie Goodman from Farnham, has also been chosen to be team captain following the second weekend training camp in Gloucestershire.
The Farnham Fireballs’ player will travel to Rome in September with the GB Under-19 squad to play against Hungary, Belgium, Slovenia and Austria in a round of Under-19 World Cup qualification matches.
Archie has been playing floorball at Farnham Leisure Centre every Saturday for roughly half his life and is hoping to make it into the GB Olympic Team when floorball is admitted to the Olympics Summer Games.
Although floorball is officially an Olympic-recognised sport it is still on the waiting list to go into the summer games. It is hoped that it will be admitted to the 2024 games following the decision of China to become the 62nd country to officially start playing the sport earlier this year.
Archie’s success proves that starting young improves individuals’ chances of representing their country.
