MORE snow and ice overnight closed more than 1,200 schools across the UK today (March 1), including 10 in and around Haslemere.

Primary schools in Grayswood, Grayshott and Camelsdale, ShottermilI Infant and Junior school, Witley Infant School, The Chandler Junior School, Witley, and both Woolmer Hill School and Rodborough School, Milford, are all shut due to "severe weather conditions".

South Western Railway is running a revised timetable but said that has also been affected by “"multiple issues", meaning further train delays. Passengers unable to travel today or tomorrow have been told their tickets will be valid on Saturday and Sunday.

It’s not all doom and gloom. Dog walkers have been enjoying a winter wonderland in Hndhead at The Devil’s Punch Bowl.

There is no sign of Storm Emma - named by the Portuguese Met Service - easing up in the next couple of days and the cold spell is expected to continue to bite into the weekend.
