WHITEHILL Town Council this week pledged its support for creating a memorable goodbye to the Army. In 2011, after years of speculation, the Ministry of Defence announced that the Army would be pulling out of Whitehill and Bordon by the end of 2015 and relocating to RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire. From very early on there was talk of commemorating the departure, seen by many as the end of an era, because Bordon has been a garrison town for more than 100 years. As such the town council set up a working party to investigate the best way to say goodbye. Now plans for the Farewell to the Garrison Festival are beginning to take shape, with councillors at Tuesday night's meeting unanimously voting to support the project in any way they can.
