GRAYSHOTT police have thanked a local resident for helping them catch three juvenile car thieves after they went on a Ford Fiesta-stealing spree last week.
A blue Ford Fiesta was stolen from Kings Road in Haslemere on Monday, April 15, and the same day a community minded resident rang police saying that they had seen a vehicle driving erratically at Waggoners Wells.
Although at the time officers couldn't find the vehicle, it was spotted the day after and the three youths on board were arrested.
The offenders, two aged 15, and the other 16 were interviewed about a number of other car thefts in the Haslemere and Liphook areas.
A second blue Ford Fiesta was stolen from Weydown Road car park on the same afternoon, and an attempt was made on a third at 6-30 pm in Hindhead.
The car window was smashed and the steering was tampered with, but thieves were unable to take the car because it had a flat battery. Police believe they drove off in one of the other Ford Fiesta's they stole earlier in the day.
Grayshott WPc Paula Jackson said: "I want to give a big thank you to the member of public who phoned up. It was a good result."
A similar incident that police are not yet connecting with the others took place on Monday evening in Tower Road, Hindhead between 5 pm and 10-30 pm.
Thieves went to a white Ford Fiesta in a communal car park, smashed the window and pulled the dashboard apart.
A sports bag containing £260 worth of sports gear inside was also taken.
