AN AFRICAN art exhibition in aid of the Nyabondo Primary School in Kenya was enjoyed by families and residents, at Shottermill Junior School.
Haslemere Confederation Schools have nominated Nyabondo as their fundraising charity for the current academic year, and visitors were invited to purchase the children’s artworks to raise money for the Kenyan school with which the Beacon Hill school has developed a long-standing relationship.
Shottermill Junior School headteacher Kate Barnes said: “The exhibition was hosted in the school hall, with additional performances from the school choir to help set the scene
“Representatives from Shottermill Infants, St Bartholemew’s and Beacon Hill came along to view the work on display which included African jewellery, batik designs, papier-mache baskets and prints inspired by African animals.
“We hope some of our teachers may be able to visit this school over the next few years to learn about their culture and approach to educating children in this unique and contrasting setting.”
