ARTIST David Shepherd - whose painting Christ on the Battlefield presided over the altar at the Bordon Garrison church - died yesterday, Wednesday, age 86.

David - who grew up in Frimley and Frensham and lived near Hascombe for 32 years before moving from Surrey to Sussex - was among the congregation at the last service to be held at Bordon’s St George’s Garrison Church, in July 2015.

The church, in Budds Lane, was the Army’s church for more than 40 years before the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers relocated to Lyneham, Wiltshire, in 2015, taking David’s painting with them.
