ANYONE who is familiar with one of Petersfield's most popular artists will know they are in for a treat when her work is featured in a new TV series starting next week.

Sharon Hurst is well known as a fantasy artist in watercolour and her distinctive pictures are exhibited widely across the south of England.

A member of myriad art societies, an author and a teacher, Sharon is renowned for her use of vibrant colours and her penchant for the fantasy genre. And her work will now feature in a new television series called Fraser and Friends.

The eight-part series, which will be shown on Mondays at 5pm on Sky channel 192 and Freesat channel 402, features Lincoln-based artist Fraser Scarfe, who meets up with a variety of professional artists from across the country.

In the first episode, to be aired next Monday, October 6, Fraser learns of Sharon's love of bold colour and captivating effects and explores her favourite landmark, the Watts Chapel in the village of Compton, near Guildford, where they explore the work of renowned Victorian artist George Frederic Watts.

After filming at the chapel, the production team moved on to Petersfield to film her working in her own studio.

Sharon said she believed it was both the subject matter and depth of colour not usually seen in watercolour that makes her work so appealing.

She said: "I used to paint landscapes and sensible art but now my paintings are about myth and magic, in essence looking at English culture and finding the goodness and discovery of a story and trying to paint it."
