AN application to develop an environmentally-friendly ASDA superstore in Whitehill and Bordon was refused by East Hampshire District Council's planning committee last week.
The proposal was to build a 1,903sqm store at Viking Park.
Although the scheme was supported by Whitehill Town Council, members of EHDC planning committee voted 10-1 one to back the council officer's recommendation to refuse it.
Whitehill Mayor Tony Muldoon was the only member to vote in favour of the plans.
A spokeswoman from ASDA said: "Obviously, the result is pretty dire. We are obviously disappointed, but we're not at all surprised."
