THINKING of taking up boxing with Farnham Boxing Club? Then read all about them in club member and author, Tom Easton’s fictional book, which was successfully launched late last month.
The comical novel, Girls Can’t Hit, focuses on friendship, feminism and fighting for one’s corner - it is based around a young boxer and her experiences in a boxing club.
Tom used Farnham Boxing Club for research and inspiration, even loosely basing one of the coaches on Farnham’s leader Rikke.
Alice Askew, who deals with admin and marketing at the Farnham Boxing Club, said: “It went really well, I’d say throughout the night there were approximately 300 visitors, and one has since joined the club, fingers crossed more follow.
“Tom did a funny entrance with Rikke announcing him over the microphone as if he were a boxer entering the ring, then he came out dressed as a boxer and gave a reading from his book.”
• Farnham Boxing Club has secured planning permission to build its own hall attached to the current Brambleton Hall in Talbot Road– this will allow the club to expand and hold more sessions. The club is currently looking into fundraising.
