FOOTBALL fan and Puffin children's author Tom Palmer brought an inflatable goal with him when he visited Camelsdale Primary School last week.
The best-selling author of the Foul Play and Football Academy' series for children is also the official author for the National Literacy Trust's Premier League Reading Stars scheme. He talked about playing football and rugby, and how he writes his stories.
"I never enjoyed reading until my mother found books about sport," he said.
"Then there was no stopping me. I have really enjoyed sharing my enthusiasm for reading with the children today."
The visit was the highlight of the school's Book Week, which was largely organised by its librarian Julie Brownbill.
It included a story time in which teachers swapped classes, a mystery book swap, and a trail based upon the books of Anthony Browne.
Pupils also enjoyed talking books and films on a visit to Hammer's Over 60s Club, and a grandparents' and parents' storytime with the latter using books two year groups have published together.
The week's grand finale was a Character Day when pupils and staff dressed up as their favourite characters.
