GILBERT White’s House Museum at Selborne will host a talk next week by author Ian Alexander.

To complement his captivating book The English Love Affair With Nature, the talk takes place next Thursday, March 10, at 6.30pm.

Mr Alexander will take the audience through the rollercoaster ride of our relationship with nature, looking at escapism, romanticism, art, animal cruelty, conservation, and bird watching.

The English, supposedly cold and unemotional, are helplessly in love with nature. We fell in love 200 years ago with the likes of Gilbert White, and today we live with pets, rejoice in gardening, watch wildlife documentaries, and use smartphone apps.

Mr Alexander will tell the story of our long, tangled and passionate romance, how we fell in love, and why we are still obsessed with nature.

Tickets are £5 from the museum shop or online at gilbertwhiteshouse.org.uk.
