BACK-UP measures and extra staff will be in place to ensure Surrey's emergency services are prepared for the millennium.

Speaking at a special briefing held last week at Woking Borough Council, senior representatives from Surrey police, Surrey fire and rescue, Surrey ambulance, Surrey County Council and West Surrey Health Authority said they had spent two years planning for the millennium and were confident a "normal level" of service would be maintained throughout the busy festive period.
