A DEVELOPER'S rallying cry for Farnham to accept more housing growth has sparked a backlash from residents, community planning watchdogs and councillors.

John Kelly of Wates Developments, the company behind plans for up to 190 new homes at Compton Fields off Waverley Lane, told last week's Herald that Farnham must 'shake off its phobia of growth' to help fund major infrastructure improvements.

However, in the wake of Mr Kelly's comments, South Farnham Residents Association' chairman Zofia Lovell urged people to oppose "unplanned opportunistic development" and not to be duped into thinking developers can offer solutions to the town's infrastructure problems.
