ST John Ambulance is appealing for a new volunteer to lead Farnham’s Badger Unit and to help equip the next generation with the skills to save a life.

The nation’s leading first aid charity believes every young person should have the opportunity to learn basic life-saving skills in a fun, safe and supportive environment. The Badgers is where it all begins for children aged between seven to 10 years old.

A new unit manager is needed to lead the group and its lively weekly programme, which includes creative activities, games and outdoor pursuits, as well as first aid training and health.

The group meets on a weekday evening during term-time for around an hour and a half.

James Roberts, volunteer area manager for St John Ambulance, said: “Unit managers play a crucial part in the development of our younger volunteers by broadening their horizons and helping them to realise their potential.

“Learning first aid improves self-esteem, develops confidence and fosters a sense of belonging and service in young people. By getting involved you will help support our young volunteers and provide more people with the life-saving skills they need to be the difference between life and death.”

No previous first aid experience is required as full training will be given. The role would suit someone looking for experience working with young people or in a community setting.
