A NEGLECTED green in Folly Hill is set to revamped with new children’s play equipment after Waverley Borough Council bagged £5,000 from Tesco’s Bags of Help funding scheme.
Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch Bags of Help, which sees grants of up to £5,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to outdoor community projects every month.
A project to spruce up Old Park Close in Folly Hill got the most votes by shoppers at Tesco stores in the Farnham, Aldershot, Farnborough and Camberley areas.
Andrew Bolton, executive member for grants at Waverley Borough Council, said: “I’m delighted to get this fantastic news. I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for Old Park Close at the participating Tesco stores.
“The new play facilities will help to increase physical activity and improve the health and well-being of the young people living in the close.
“What’s more, the project will create a community focal point for children and parents to gather in a safe, outdoor environment and have fun together.”
Voting ran in stores from December 1 to December 31, with customers choosing which project they would like to get the top award using a token given to them at the check-out in store.
Since launching in 2015, Bags of Help has awarded more than £25 million across more than 3,000 local projects. One of those projects included transforming Badshot Lea Pond, so it could be better enjoyed by the community.
