CHURCHER'S Junior School officially opened its long-awaited arts wing on Friday with a launch of balloons, a whole school "building" song, poetry and a gallery of children's art work.
Pupils and guests were thrilled to welcome Dave Benson Phillips, the children's TV presenter, to the school to set off the balloons and officially open the new building in style.
The occasion also marked the end of the annual arts' week, where pupils were involved in a host of activities throughout the week linked to the National Gallery's 'Take one Picture' initiative.
Some artwork made by the children and a special patterned and coloured mirror were donated to High Hurlands for their sensory room.
Staff and two residents from the home were presented with the gifts on opening day.
The school has since received a couple of calls from France with regard to the Great Balloon Race launched on opening day.
The balloon which has travelled furthest so far was found in the Fontainebleau Forest approximately 60km south of Paris.
The project has given the Churcher's Junior School a new art room and performing arts studio. A revised planning consent was granted in March, while a 20-week construction programme began in May before being completed in September.
