BORDON firefighters helped to tackle a blaze at the Hartley Park Farm Business Centre on the Selborne Road (B3006) on Tuesday.

Landowner Simon Butler praised the efficiency and speed of the response by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and police to the fire, which destroyed two barns.

Mr Butler said they helped to ensure the bad night for the family and their business tenants had not been worse.

Shortly before 7pm a police officer, cycling past, saw smoke and knocked at the farmhouse door to alert the owners. Mr Butler could not believe the fire's speed and ferocity.

Crews from Alton, Liphook, Grayshott, Droxford, Basingstoke, Southsea and Portchester helped. Some firefighters remained into the early hours to damp down the embers, and an investigation team was due to start work on Wednesday to determine the cause.
