Thursley took another stride towards the division two championship by crushing Badshot Lea on Saturday.

Asked to bat, Thursley duly set about the visitors' attack, with the dynamic opening pair of De Cairies and Baiden putting together yet another century stand – 131 this time. The in-form Tilson kept up the scoring rate with 75 not out and, supported by Sylvester, took Thursley to a declaration at 244-2.

Keith Tilson also played a starring role with the ball, ably assisted by the accurate Gubby. The main difference this week was that Thursley held their catches and a shell-shocked Badshot Lea were bowled out for 88. Tilson finished with 5 for 19 for eight overs – no other candidates for man of the match.

Nick Randall found conditions exactly to his liking at Kingsley. The evergreen seamer took 7 for 18 in 14 overs and a red-faced Frensham II were shot out for 37 in 28 overs.

Earlier, Kingsley had knuckled down to the task against some testing bowling by Gardiner and Cobb (6-33) and, largely thanks to a vital half-century by Broadmeadow, totalled a very competitive 147.

Then Randall and Cooper ran through Frensham's batting, with only McLean reaching double figures. O Cooper, age 13, batted and fielded well, and held a good catch for dad Steve.

A whirlwind 74 by Morrison got Wood Street off to a flying start. After he had been brilliantly caught on the midwicket boundary by Paul Slinger (12th over), Foster, Harding, Haymon and Ellis kept the momentum going against a mediocre Tilford II attack. The visitors declared after 45 overs on a massive 252-8.

After Wright had dismissed both Tilford openers with his inswing, left-arm spinner Haymon proved hard to handle on a lively pitch and, of the early batsmen, only Saunders offered any resistance. Harding cleaned up the tail with five wickets in six overs and a feeble Tilford were all out for 85.

Things are desperately close at the bottom. Frimchett easily beat fellow strugglers Milford to revive their hopes of escaping relegation. Frimchett are six points behind Milford, with Tilford II only one point outside the drop zone.

Grayswood won an exciting match at Hindhead with only one ball remaining, thanks to an inspired spell of pace bowling by Andy Gloak. Put in on a drying wicket, Grayswood quickly lost their top order to Jack Harris who took the first five wickets to fall. Opener Moore held firm until he finally perished to Harris during his second spell, for an invaluable 66, which allowed Grayswood to total a competitive 128.

Harris then struck a whirlwind 25, but after he had smashed a mighty six, he tried to repeat it next ball and was bowled. Butcher and Dobson, however, took the total to 70-1 and victory was in sight.

At this stage, Gloak returned and wickets tumbled. Hindhead's hopes eventually perished when opener Robert Dobson, who had held the innings together, was eighth man out for a battling 40. At the start of the last over, Hindhead were 117-8, with the winning draw secured. However, Gloak was too much for the tailenders to handle and when he trapped Cooling leg before off the penultimate ball, Grayswood had snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

Milford (69) lost to Frimchett (142-9).
