FLAGS will be flying high this weekend as Beacon Hill and Chiddingfold join the nation in celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday weekend.
While Haslemere joined in the celebrations with a spectacular carnival and street party to celebrate both St George’s Day and the Queen’s actual 90th birthday in April, this weekend marks the official birthday of the Queen and the bunting will once again be out in force.
Over the weekend. tomorrow (Saturday) and on Sunday, Beacon Hill lets its hair down for a series of village community events. culminating in a huge street party in Beacon Hill Road.
The right royal weekend kicks-off on Saturday evening at Hindhead Royal British Legion, in Beacon Hill Road, where will be a live screening the UEFA Euro 2016 match between England and Russia, from around 7.30pm onwards.
There is also live music from local band Hissy Fit with barbecue food on the menu for everybody who is welcome to just turn up for the event.
On Sunday, the day begins with a thanksgiving service at St Alban’s Church, at 10.30 am.
Between 3pm and 5pm, the real family fun starts when Beacon Hill swaps its busy shopping street and parked cars in Beacon Hill Road, for a bustling street party, filled with people and party fare for an event to remember for years to come.
With live music by The Bevin Boys, a children’s crown competition and an adults ‘90 Years of British Fashion’ themed fancy dress competition, the village will be in party mood all afternoon.
Pimm’s, prosecco, ice creams and other refreshments are available from the tent. specially organised by the British Legion.
A cake still will be manned by the Mothers’ Union and tea and coffee served by Hindhead Scouts.
There is still time to book a table, six adults per table (bring your own chairs) for the special occasion which is a free to attend village event.

In Chiddingfold, the theme of the annual village fete which takes place on Sunday, June 12, is also the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Taking place from noon until 4.30pm, red, white and blue is set to be the theme of the day with stallholders dressed in the colours of the Union Jack.
With lots of market stalls, music, sideshows, food, drink, interesting events and entertainment for children, among the many prizes raffle is a helicopter flight to London.
Arena events include a performance by the newly-formed Chiddingfold Choir for Fun, who will be singing the National Anthem and inviting everybody to join in, at 2.30pm.
The ever-popular maypole dancing by school children, a performance by specially trained Canine Partners dogs is also featured during the afternoon events which culminates in the traditional tug of war.
