A BEACON was lit from the keep of Farnham Castle by the Mayor of Farnham, Pat Frost, in a special ceremony which took place last week, to celebrate the 90th birthday of the Queen.

More than 900 beacons were lit throughout the UK and abroad, kicking off with the first being lit by her majesty herself at Windsor.

Members from The Army Cadet Force travelled to the top of the highest peaks of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, to torch their beacons.

Visitors joined the mayor and dignitaries for a Champagne and canape reception at The Keep, at Farnham Castle last Thursday.

They listened as Peter Lee, DL read a message from Prince Charles, followed by a toast to the Queen, before the mayor lit the beacon at 7.30pm.

Mrs Frost, said: “I would like to thank the castle for organising this, and I think it’s a fitting tribute to a Queen that we all love on her 90th birthday. I think this is fabulous.

“During the past, particularly in my mayoral year we have become much closer with the castle and the way it works and we have been very grateful for what we are allowed to do here.”
