IT was lights, music and action at Potters Gate School as the 30 children in year six entertained parents, local dignitaries and the children of St Andrew’s School with their version of Beauty and the Beast.
To a backdrop of enchanted castles, rivers and forests, they danced and acted with energy and enthusiasm to packed audiences over three days.
The costumes and set design were colourful and creative and the children rose to the occasion performing with humour, emotion and passion.
The highlight for many people was the dining scene with Belle being entertained by Lumière and Cogsworth and all the cutlery and crockery in the famous tune Be Our Guest, which was also performed for the encore complete with confetti fireworks and bubbles.
Jo Linscott, year six teacher and director, said: “It has been a delight to see the children grow in confidence during the rehearsals and to witness some remarkable solo performances as well as team efforts in the group scenes.
“After a very busy year preparing for their SATs, in which they excelled with outstanding results, they enjoyed using different skills to prepare for the performances and loved helping with design, sound and lighting.”
