YOU’RE Getting Warmer (YGW), an outdoor adventure for families and small groups that explores the effects of climate change in the UK is coming to the Farnham Maltings on Saturday, July 16.

Armed with a smart-phone and specialist app technology, children and families are cast as Agents for Change by head honcho Agent Zero on a mission to hunt down clues to save the endangered marsh warbler and stall the Three and a Half Degrees Gang before everyone hits a rising temperature catastrophe.

Created by theatre producers Pebble Gorge and collaborators John Hunter and Cat Harrison, small groups of children aged seven to 11 years, and accompanying adults use a smart phone app to navigate around and interact with a series of installations.

Using the YGW app participants follow written directions and an in-built compass devise to find their way between caches.

Each cache uses a mixture of visual or audio clips on the phone alongside real objects placed at specific places on the route. The caches have been designed to be self-sufficient and as unobtrusive to the local environment as possible, while still being unusual, intriguing and fun.

At the end of the mission groups will record their own response to what they’ve achieved and upload it to a special installation on route where it will kept for others to see.

Other YGW agents and passers-by will be able to scan the installation using their smart phone to see YGW films as well as look through a range of other climate change related information.

Pebble Gorge have developed You’re Getting Warmer for children after identifying that there was a need for more arts-based activities that used digital technology as a way of exploring big ideas.

It is fundamentally about the effects of climate change on the UK, not melting ice caps and polar bears but things that everyone can all relate to here and now.

Tickets for the event are priced at £40 per team (which can be up to five people) and is for ages seven to 11 years and their families or groups of young people aged 12 to 14 years. Tickets can be purchased at the box office on 01252 74544 or online at farnham
