BUDDING artists ventured deep into an imaginary jungle at Haslemere Museum’s ‘Big Draw’ event, on Saturday last week.

The museum celebrated October’s The Big Draw Festival 2017, with an afternoon family drop-in session.

Education officer Kay Topping said: “It was a busy Saturday with Museum Explorers in the morning and Haslemere Young People’s Exhibition team (HYPE) and Big Draw in the afternoon.

“More than 50 people came to the free Big Draw family drop-in, kindly sponsored by Haslemere Decorative and Fine Arts Society.

‘It was wonderful to see whole families, from tiny tots to grandparents working together to make items for our display in the annexe area of the museum.

“The background for the display was made at Friday’s early year session and by the Museum Explorers in the morning.

“Visitors to the afternoon session made parrots and handprinted animals for our jungle-themed display.

“The result is an extremely colourful display with some very cute animals. We were very lucky to have artist Diana Burch here to run the sessions.

“She will be here again in November to do some Christmas art workshops for adults,” Kay added.

“We also had artist Talia Randall here, working with the HYPE team on a drama and creative writing workshop for our teenage visitors.

“They created some wonderful poetry on a First World War theme. Talia will be repeating this workshop at half-term.

“So, over the Friday and Saturday, we had something creative for all ages and it was wonderful to see just how creative people are.”
