POLICE are urging local residents and businesses to be extra vigilant after a spate of burglaries within the past few weeks.
Homes and businesses in Bordon and surrounding villages have been targeted by burglars who, in one instance, made off with £9,000 worth of jewellery.
In the burglary, which took place between June 14 and 22, diamond earrings, a diamond ring, a watch and a bracelet were taken by burglars who broke into a home on Wheatsheaf Common, Liphook.
A television, a DVD player, 100 CDs and a patchwork quilt were taken during the burglary at a home in The Mount, Headley, between 9 and 11 pm last Thursday.
An empty home in Petersfield Road, Whitehill, has also been targeted.
Sometime between June 14 and 17 £1,700 worth of tools and equipment which was being used to renovate the house was stolen.
The haul included a power saw, cordless drill and a jig saw.
Luck and vigilance helped to prevent two additional burglaries.
Last Monday at around midday a neighbour disturbed two men as they attempted to break into a home in Maple Way, Headley Down.
The duo, who ran off into the woodland near the Land of Nod, were white, aged between 17 and 20 and both wearing jeans and T-shirts.
A family who returned to their home in Grasmere Close, Bordon, at 12-45 pm last Friday disturbed two men who had broken into the garage and were trying to steal a quad bike.
The pair, who ran off, were described as white, aged between 18 and 20, around 5 feet 8 ins tall and wearing dark clothes.
It is not only homes that are being targeted. Two businesses on the Woolmer Trading Estate in Bordon have had computers and other electrical equipment taken during overnight break-ins.
A Dell laptop computer, two digital cameras and other computer equipment with a combined value of £3,600 were taken from Bordon Tyre and Exhaust last Tuesday.
Two laptops and a digital camera were taken from Intelligent Security Limited on Monday night.
Sgt Howard Lovegrove from Whitehill police station urged anyone with information about any of the burglaries to come forward.
ÒIf anybody knows anything or has been offered cheap computer equipment, contact us as it would be a big help,Ó he said.
Sgt Lovegrove also asked home owners and businesses to be vigilant about security.
ÒWith the hot summer months, people are tending to leave windows open to let some air in.
ÒWe would ask people to review the security of their houses.Ó
