CREATIVE youngsters at St Andrew’s School scooped the best Guy prize at last weekend’s Farnham Round Table Fireworks Fiesta with an incredibly lifelike effigy of Roald Dhal’s BFG.

The school’s Big Friendly Giant, chosen to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the much-loved children’s author’s birthday, came complete with Sophie riding in his waistcoat pocket and a bag containing his dream trumpet and snozzcumber.

It was crafted with the help of some very talented parents, teaching staff and pupils across all classes, who particularly enjoyed the painting, sticking and stuffing the guy with hay.

A special mention should be given to the aptly-surnamed Pru Burns, who made such a realistic BFG head that everyone felt it was a shame he had to meet such an unfortunate demise.

St Andrew’s won the Round Table’s £250 prize for the best Guy, up against stiff competition from other schools in the area.
