GRAYSHOTT Beavers and Cubs did sterling work outside Haslemere shops and raised more than £240 for this year’s Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The Scout troop is celebrating a generous donation from Grayshott Co-op and customers, as part of a scheme to support good causes in the village.

The Co-op Local Community Fund scheme runs for one year, and in that time the Grayshott branch and its customers have raised just over £2,000, which is being donated to the group.

The money will be used to restart its Scout troop for ten-and-a-half to 14 year-olds. The troop dates back to around 1911, but has suffered in recent years from a lack of volunteer leaders and adult helpers. There is now a new and enthusiastic leadership team which plans to restart the Scouts from January next year. The funds will help develop a programme of activities.
