A HOT Sunday afternoon didn’t deter more than 70 people from attending the annual ‘silver service’ at Alton Methodist Church.

Organised by Alton’s Anna Chaplains Debbie Thrower and Rachel Sturt, the service is held to value and encourage older people in the community.

This year’s event was entitled ‘A Quiet Mind’ and focussed on the ways in which older people can reflect on their memories, on nature and on God.

The service, which was attended by people from every church in Alton, contained hymns which had been chosen by some of the attendees, Bible readings, poems, prayers, and a reflection by Debbie Thrower.

After the service, there was tea and homemade cakes in the church hall, provided by the hospitality team at Alton Methodist Church.
