Around 8,000 extra peak-time passengers will be able to travel into London Waterloo every morning as eight-car trains are lengthened to run with 10 carriages.
The news came in the same week that commuters were clobbered by an average rise in season ticket prices of 5.9 per cent - although on some routes the 2012 rise will reach eight per cent.
The cost of a season ticket from Liphook to London will rise from £3,368 to £3,572, on January 2 – an increase of 6.13 per cent.
