A FIRE broke out in a bungalow in Varna Road, Bordon, on Wednesday afternoon. The blaze, which required the attention of six fire- engines, was reported to Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service at 2-54 pm. The surrounding area was covered by an acrid smelling smoke, with a large crowd gathering along nearby Alma Road. "I was just around the corner and heard an enormous bang. I carried on to see the roof on fire," said an eyewitness. "It's been burning for well over an hour and it seems to show no sign of stopping," said another. No one was reported to be hurt in the incident, although smoke was still billowing from the roof as The Herald went to press. "A fire broke out in the attic of the bungalow and we will be sending in a team to sift through the ashes to determine the cause of the fire," said a Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesman. "The electricity board was called to isolate the building and 100 per cent of the bungalow has been affected, which is rare." Liphook and Bordon sent a fire engine each, while two were sent from Alton. A water carrier from Bordon also attended, as well as a specialist equipment unit from Basingstoke.
