Both he and his new puppy, a mountain dog, escaped the blaze, but he was left in shock by the severity of the fire.
After taking over the historic pub in 2011, the former boss of Liphook United FC has been working hard to refurbish it and turning it into a popular meeting place.
But fire gutted the building in less than 30 minutes.
