AS part of the Royal Air Force’s 100th anniversary celebrations, the flowerbed outside the sorting office has been planted out by members of Liphook In Bloom (LIB) to commemorate the centenary.
The famous RAF roundels were formed from red geranium, white alysum and blue candytuft, while marigolds were planted in the formation of the figure 100.
To make the display even more significant three model airplanes and a helicopter have been mounted on sticks and inserted into the bed in Portsmouth Road.
The models were part of a collection by Liphook stalwart Eddie Keemar, who sadly passed away recently.
Eddie was a keen model maker and his son Jed, who was in the Royal Air Force, donated the items to add a meaningful gesture to the anniversary flower bed, which has been sponsored by Lumi, who moved into premises at the OSU recently.
LIB members completed another project at the top of Portsmouth Road by re-building a retaining wall for the cyclamen bed, which over the years had eroded.
The stone was sourced from the wall that surrounded the old chestnut tree outside The Royal Anchor Pub in The Square, before it was felled in 2015.
Liphook In Bloom aims to make the village centre attractive for all to enjoy whether they are local residents, those who work here or for people visiting the parish, hoping to bring a “feel good” factor to everyone.
