ONLY 500 council homes in Waverley are expected to benefit from the free installation of solar PV panels, following the Government's bombshell halving of feed-in tariffs.

After surveying more than 3,000 council homes for suitability, the council had aimed to install panels on around 1,200 homes over the coming months.

The dramatic reduction in the financial incentive announced last week, however, has resulted in many solar providers halting or pulling out of schemes that are no longer commercially viable.
