BLUE Peter gardener Chris Collins cut a ribbon with his shears to mark the first harvest at the new allotments in Alton.

Alton Town Council had more than 150 residents on its waiting list for plots and created the first new allotment site in the town for decades, on grazing land it owned at Hawthorns, allowing 43 people to grow their own produce.
