A FARNHAM man who tried to rescue a pensioner from drowning in the River Wey at Gostrey Meadow is to be honoured by Surrey police at a forthcoming ceremony.

Superintendent Martin West is to make a presentation to Peter Banks, a graphic designer from Arthur Road, in recognition of the ultimately unsuccessful efforts he made to save 73-year-old Herbert Palmer, of Ryle Road, whose body was found in the river on February 12.
