POLICE have warned residents to be vigilant after bogus housing association workers tricked their way into a Bordon home.
On Monday at around 8-45 am the two men talked their way into a home on the Pinewood Estate after claiming that they were checking the propertyÕs boiler on behalf of the housing association.
The two men were asked for, and unable to produce, ID and the suspicious householder rang the housing association.
After their ruse was foiled the two men left empty-handed.
Sergeant Colin Diamond urged residents to always ask visitors for identification as genuine workers always carry it and their details can be checked with their employer.
He said: ÒWe would obviously request that people are vigilant about this kind of thing.
ÒNothing was taken in this instance but it is still very worrying.Ó
The first man is described as white, aged between 45 and 55 around between 5 ft 8 ins and 5 ft 9 ins in height.
He was of stocky build with a beer belly, greying light brown receding hair and wearing a v-neck light blue jumper with navy trousers.
The second man has been described as white and about the same height, of stocky build with short brown hair and carrying a clip board.
ÒThe first man was very persistent and pushy, while the second man was quite nervous,Ó the sergeant added.
The warnings for vigilance and the latest incident follow that of bogus policemen entering East Hampshire homes and stealing cash.
Earlier this month three men, pretending to be police officers, managed to get into the homes of elderly people in Liss, Petersfield and Ropley and stole quantities of cash.
Anyone who saw the conmen in Bordon on Monday are urged to contact Whitehill police station on 0845 045 45 45.
