POLICE are warning local residents to be on their guard after a bogus water official knocked on the door of a property in Church Lane in Lasham on Thursday evening last week.

When the door was answered, the man requested the owner of the house go outside to turn off the water supply. Even though the elderly woman locked the door behind her, a second offender found his way into the house and ransacked the property.

Items to the value of more than £300 were stolen.

The first man is described as a white European male between 30 and 40, clean shaven with short, dark brown hair.

There is no description of the second man.

The officer dealing with the case is Dc Phil Harrison-Smith, who can be contacted on 0845 045 45 45.

Police are reminding local residents that noone should be let into the home without proper identification that can be verified.
