A SOLDIER from Alton, who survived a suicide bomb attack in southern Afghanistan, has been awarded the Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service (QCVS).
Staff Sergeant Michael Atkinson, 34, of 23 Engineer Regiment (Air Assault) Royal Engineers was part of a small team helping with reconstruction and development in Helmand province.
