POLICE were called to Lynton Road, Bordon, after builders found what they feared could be a bomb in the ground.
Builders preparing foundations for a new care home sounded the alarm, having exposed three unidentified objects.
Site manager Stuart Hendry, from contractor Mountjoy, based in Fleet, said they contacted emergency services as a “precaution” as the discovery “could have been an unexploded bomb”.
The objects, discovered last week, turned out to be gas canisters used by pubs to pump beer.
Hampshire Constabulary responded to reports of “potential hazardous materials” at the site, just off Bordon High Street.
“The materials were not deemed to be hazardous and there were no suspicious circumstances,” a spokesman added.
One fire engine from Liphook also attended the scene.
