ONE of the UK’s best known children’s book illustrators, Chris Birmingham, visited St Peter’s School recently to lead a workshop for year three children.
Children were shown how to create their own illustrations based on the myths of Perseus and Medusa.
Caroline Hyland, year three teacher said: “It was a real hands-on experience and a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn from a famous artist and book illustrator.
“Chris explained how long it takes him to perfect his illustrations and also showed children how to start sketching out their own ideas.
“The whole afternoon was inspiring for both children and teachers. We were so pleased with the outcomes.”
Caroline added Chris has challenged the children to create an illustration based on a legend and has donated exciting prizes of signed copies of Michael Morpurgo’s novels for the winners.
Chris’s illustrations appear in many children’s favourites including the Michael Morpurgo novels and books by Martin Waddell and Dick King-Smith.
